Phailin, the cyclone, struck Odisha on the night of 12.10.2013 near Gopalpur. After the departure of cyclone the flood in north Odisha made the lives miserable. AIR Cuttack continued whole night transmission on the day of cyclone. After that numbers of Phone-in programmes, Radio reports were broadcast. I, being posted at AIR, Keonjhar contacted the District Collector and recorded his interview at 9.00PM on 9.10.13 and the same was repeatedly broadcast in all the transmission along with measures to be taken by the listeners on their own to face the cyclone. I went on leave to join my family at Bhubaneswar on 11.10.2013 after the live phone-in programme on the Shakti pithas of Odisha. But I was requested by Dr.Sudha Mishra, Station Director, AIR, Cuttack to contribute to the different programme being broadcast on Cyclone and Flood.

I move around Bhubaneswar on my Bike to contact Senior Officers and collect information. I gave live bytes and interviewed officers for Phone in programme on 13th October. Next day I interviewed senior Officers of State government and prepared a Radio report. On 16th I visited the flood affected Bhadrak district to give on the spot report and interviewed people of marooned villages for the live Phone-in programme. This was another experience for me work the time natural disaster. I was on leave, but enjoyed my contribution at the request of SD, AIR, Cuttack. …….
