On Wednesday, 19 February, All India Radio (AIR) launched a new FM station in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. The new station was inaugurated by Congress vice president- Rahul Gandhi. Considering the city is a Congress stronghold, and the party is currently being represented by Rahul Gandhi, it was very obvious to see him at the inauguration.

Speaking about the new FM Rainbow station, AIR said that it will offer Amethi listeners digital sound quality. The statement issued by AIR said, “Programmes, along with hourly news broadcasts from AIR, Lucknow, will be relayed to Amethi. The channel will entertain, inform and educate the people, especially the youth."

The statement also said that the station will be available on the 103.1 metre band, from 6 am to 12 midnight, and will offer coverage of up to 30 km. This is the third FM station that AIR has launched in the past three months in the state. Prior to this, it introduced two stations in the cities of Lakhimpur Kheri and Rae Bareli.

AIR's new Amethi FM station means the network now has a total of 583 transmitters and 412 stations. The last FM station that AIR launched was the Gold Radio channel in Ludhiana, in August 2013. With the launch, Ludhiana became the country's fifth city to have its very own FM Gold Radio station after the four metros- Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai.
