AIR to hold poets's symposium today

             HYDERABAD: All India Radio will be organizing a national Kavi Sammelan or symposium on poetry in Hyderabad on Thursday (09-01-2014) to mark the upcoming Republic Day.

R Venkateswarlu, director general, Prasar Bharti, told mediapersons on Wednesday that 21 poets from various regional languages and two from Hindi would be participating at the event. Their works would be translated by other litterateurs during the poetic session in Telugu and Hindi. "In all 66 poets will be taking part in the event which has become an annual feature of the AIR. Last year the gathering of poets was held in Bhilai, Chattisgarh," he said.

Telugu poetry will be represented by R Anantha Padmanabha Rao and his work will be translated by C Bhavani Devi into Hindi. The two poets from Hindi-Liladhar Mandloi and Visnu Chandra Sharma-will be reciting their works. Noted poet and anchor Zubair Razwi will occupy the slot earmarked for Urdu. The poets' session will be held at 4.00 pm at APSRTC Kalabhavan, Baghlingampally. It will be aired at 10.00am on January 25.

Meanwhile, Aditya Prasad, deputy DG AIR Hyderabad, said that the city radio station has won four awards recently which include one in the category of Best Regional News Unit that is headed by Baquer Mirza and another for D Supra Shanti Devi as the Best News Editor.

He said that 20,000 tapes from AIR Hyderabad archives have been digitized. "The Deccan Radio started its service in Hyderabad in 1936. But we don't have voices from that time as there was no system to record them. We have records from 1958 onwards," he said.
