DD-India, the government's official mouthpiece, which was to be launched
in Europe during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Germany, has been
postponed again, thanks to redtapism.
In August last year, Prasar Bharati, India's public service broadcaster,
signed an MoU with Germany's public broadcaster, Duetsche Welle. The
target was to reach 120 million homes in Europe, the Middle East and
Northern Africa. As a dry-run, the Republic Day parade on January 26 was
telecast live. But lack of inter-ministerial consultations for the channel
content derailed the project.
"Various stakeholder ministries including external affairs, tourism,
culture, overseas affa-irs were contacted as no one agency can speak on
behalf of India.
But we did not receive any concrete suggestion or material from them," a
senior Prasar Bharati official said.
The information and broadcasting ministry has lobbed the ball into Prasar
Bharati's court instead, saying that their 'preparedness is not up to the
mark', a senior official at the ministry said.
