AIR Chennai, is continuously
extending helping hand to the needy Chennai people marooned with floods
caused by incessant monsoon rains pouring down for several days. 24x7 FM
Rainbow channel through its Help Line Numbers 044-24991014/044-24980060
offering help to the needy for the past 72 hours. The most of the Chennai
city households are without power supply for the last 3 days. AIR FM
Rainbow Chennai is proved to be the most preferred Channel by the public.
Even though Chennai is having 11 Private FM Operators , FM Rainbow Chennai
was providing its broadcast support round the clock in a highly
professional manner. Most of the Private Operators were off the air due to
power supply failure and telecommunication problems. FM Rainbow Chennai
continuously updating the public with latest information round the clock
without break.
Some emotional moments happened during the broadcast:
· AIR Chennai received a call from Smt. Savithri, Principal of a school
for Visually Challenged persons located at Gemini Circle, Chennai seeking
food packets for the starving 300 inmates. Immediately we made an appeal
to the public over broadcast. Within an hour 6 people rushed to the school
and provided food packets. Later in the evening, the Principal thanked AIR
Chennai for its timely help provided.
· At Velachery, nearly 300 people were stuck in Apartments without power
supply, drinking water and food for 2 days without any help. On listening
to our programme, one of the residents called and expressed their pathetic
condition. Within an hour, many Volunteers rushed to the Spot with food
packets and drinking water for 300 people. It was really a great moment
for AIR Chennai.
· Another SOS Call received from SRM University, Kattankulathur Students
Hostel stating that 25 students are surrounded by flood waters. They were
stranded without any help for hours together. This situation was
highlighted in our broadcast and within 45 minutes, a Youth Group from a
nearby area rushed to the Hostel and rescued all of them. The Students
thanked AIR, Chennai for its quick response.

provided clothes for nearly 50 people.

provided food to over hundred people who were all starving due to
unavailability of food.

more than 100 people affected by rains.
· Food packets for more than 200 people were provided to the affected
persons by Mr. Chandru from Chitlapakkam, after listening to our programme.
The role of AIR FM Rainbow Chennai was very well appreciated by many
Facebook and Twitter users. Private Tamil Satellite Channel Thanthi TV in
its telecast repeatedly announced the role of AIR Chennai in setting up
helpline numbers and serving the public. Our sincere efforts to help the
affected persons were well appreciated in an article published in Mail
Today Newspaper.
In fact, AIR started broadcasting Monsoon preparedness programmes, the
possibilities and prevention of water borne diseases well before the onset
of monsoon. Frequent weather updates from Regional Meteorological
Department were broadcast at regular intervals to inform the public.
Though the campus of AIR Chennai itself is heavily flooded, Programme
staff of AIR Chennai have dedicated themselves to reach out to the needy
and set to extend their service in the days to come till such time the
city emerges out of the disaster and gets back to normal.
