A Seminar and Special cultural
extravaganza ‘Silver Waves’ are being held tomorrow, 6 November 2015, to
mark the silver jubilee of the North Eastern Service of All India Radio
(AIR), Shillong.
The seminar on ‘Service and Impact of North Eastern Service’ will be held
at the KJP Assembly Hall from 11 am to 1 pm. Dr Helen Giri (Retired Head,
Department of Creative Art, NEHU), Sri Rubaiyat -ul Ali (Technical
Director, National Informatics Centre, Guwahati) and Mr. Ashish Bhatnagar
(DDG Engineering , AIR, Pune) will be among the main speakers.
‘Silver Waves’ a grand cultural extravaganza will take place at U So So
Tham Auditorium from 4:30 pm onwards, with Meghalaya Governor- V.
Shanmuganathan as chief guest. Cultural troupes from all the eight North
Eastern states are also expected to perform at the event.
The North Eastern Service of AIR, Shillong, started on 3 January 1990. It
started to create a sense of unison and mutual understanding among the
different ethnic and communities of the region, to acquaint people with
various trends and aspects of Indian cultural heritage, and infuse a sense
of belonging and solidarity with the rest of India, apart from
disseminating information about the socio- cultural life of the people of
this region and apprise the people of the common thread that binds the
country together and to help and motivate people for participation in
various developmental schemes offered by the Government for the welfare
and upliftment of the people of the North East in particular.
For the last 25 years, the North Eastern Service of AIR has been
originating programmes for development and preservation of the rich
cultural heritage of its people who have a varied and distinct identity.
It is now also accessible all over the country through Freedish, the DTH
service of Doordarshan
