A cultural extravaganza in the offing in Guwahati

 

             CHRISTENED RHYTHMIC Northeast, the Doordarshan Kendra, Guwahati and Programme Production Centre (NE), Doordarshan, Guwahati is organising a folk dance and drum festival in Guwahati on February 20 and 21, 2010.

 

             The festival will showcase dance recitals from various ethnic troupes of the Northeast. The first day of the two-day festival will feature various dance items like: 'Katang Katang' a dance of the Aku Tribe of Arunachal Pradesh presented by Kale Cheda and party; 'Dhon Dhulok', a dance item from Manipur to be presented by N Umakanta Singh and party; Zeliang folk dance of Nagaland to be presented by Ketarutmakbo and party; the traditional Shad Suk Mynsium of the Khasis of Meghalaya to be presented by Realley Lyngskdr and party; 'Kay' (Chayabrung) dance from Sikkim to be presented by Ram Hang Subba and party; Cheraw dance of Mizoram by Kailash Rabha and party; a typical Bodo dance item by Chakradhar Narzary and party, apart from Bihu dance ensemble by Kailash Rabha and party.         

 

          The second day will showcase the rhythmic Wangala dance of Garo Hills in Meghalaya presented by Nipjen M M Marak and party; Bihu dance by Pranabjyoti Borgohain and party; Bau Naach of Barak Valley in Assam to be performed by Monoranjan Malakar and party; Sarlankai/Solakia dance of Mizoram to be presented by Lamranpana and party; Snaps Paka, a dance form of Meghalaya to be presented by Daoowhi Suiam and party; Garia dance of Tripura to be presented by Mono Deb Barman and party; Lai Haraoba dance of Manipur to be performed by Th Mani Singh and party; Myo Ayo Sarak Ayo, a dance form of East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh to be presented by Kale Cheda and party apart from Bihu dance by Ranjit Gogoi and party.

 

         Assam Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik will grace the festival as the chief guest in the inaugural function on February 20, while Meghalaya Governor Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary will grace the second day's function as the chief guest
