The group of ministers on Prasar Bharati has decided that the government will pay for the capital expenditure, infrastructure and salaries of employees amounting to about 60% of the organisation's expenditure for a five-year period. This is expected to help pull the pubcaster out of the red and get it back on its feet.

The national broadcaster will have to foot the Bill for operational and production costs. The decision was taken by the GoM headed by home minister P Chidambaram on 23/06/2011.

The GoM had earlier decided to bring down the maximum age for Prasar Bharati board members from 60 to 55 years. Appointees to the position of board chairman, CEO and permanent members will have to be below the age of 55 years.
