Prasar Bharati amendment bill 2010 passed by Rajya Sabha.

 

        After a hot debate    Rajyasbha passed the Prasar Gharati ammendmemd bill 2010 today( 08-12-2011).Majority of the members in the Rajya Sabha  favoured that Prasar Bharati should maintain its autonomy and credibility. They also suggested that effective steps should be taken to stop the misuse of public broadcaster and telecaster. They expressed their views while participating in a discussion on the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Amendment Bill, 2010.

       Initiating the discussion Mr. Tarun Vijay of the BJP demanded implementation of the Shungulu Committee recommendations on the functioning of the Prasar Bharati. He also said that officers and employees of the Corporation allegedly involved in corrupt practices must be punished. He suggested filling up of the posts lying vacant for a long time.

      Mr Shantaram Nayak of the Congress asked the government to clarify the status of employees working in the Corporation. He said among all the electronic channels, Doordarshan is only the credible medium. Mr Pyari Mohan Mohapatra of the Biju Janata Dal demanded investigation into the partial implementation of the Act and action should be taken against those responsible and said it amounted to contempt of Parliament. He warned against misusing All India Radio and Doordarshan by the ruling party of the day. Referring to the financial crisis faced by Prasar Bharati, Mr Mohapatra suggested that the Corporation be allowed to go in for joint venture.

Mr. A W Rabi Bernard of the AIADMK stressed for creating more promotional avenues for employees of the Corporation.

       The amendment bill was introduced by the minister for Information and Broadcasting, Mrs Ambika Soni. According to the bill all officers and employees recruited for the purpose of Akashwani or Doordarshan before the appointed day and in service in the Corporation as on 1st day of April 2000 shall be on deemed deputation to Corporation till their retirement
