Health Ministry launches "Swasth Bharat" series on DD, AIR

Union Health & Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on 07/04/2012 launched a health programme titled "Swasth Bharat" that will be telecast through 30 regional centres of Doordarshan and 29 stations of All India Radio covering 27 states.

In a message on this occasion, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said the Government aimed to provide all people the opportunity of leading a happy life and becoming productive citzens.

"A healthy population is essential for the development of the country. That is why our government believes that every citizen should have access to affordable health care. The National Rural Health Mission started by our government aims to provide health care to every corner of rural India. Let us together pledge to look after our health and make full use of the health facilities provided by the government," he said.

The 30-minute “Swasth Bharat “ programme will be telecast for five days a week in regional languages at prime time. The objective of the programme is to empower citizens with information on health related issues.

An official press release said the programme was expected to help the Government in developing an efficient and effective health care delivery system by creating demand from the public for better health care services.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is the first Ministry to have signed a memorandum of understanding with Prasar Bharati to start such an outreach programme to be able to reach out to a wider spectrum of population through mass media, the release added.
