Doordarshan Ahmedabad came into existence way back in 1977. Before that on 1st August 1975 First Rural Transmission in India was started at PIJ village of Kheda District. The full fledged Doordarshan Studio along with production facilities in the present campus was commissioned on 2nd October,1987.
On the completion of the Silver Jubilee year on 2nd October, 2012, A programme “SWAYAMDARSHAN” on the theme of Reminiscences of last 25 years was organised on 6th October,2012 at Doordarshan Kendra, Ahmedabad.

          Shri Samir Barua, Director, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad & Member of Prasar Bharati Board was Chief Guest on the occasion. Dr. B S Bhatia , Rtd. Director, DECU (ISRO) & Shri Ratilal Borisagar, Prominent Gujarati Writer were Guest of Honour.Shri Jugal Kishor Chandira, Dy. Director General (E) & Head of Office, DDK, Ahmedabad welcomed the invitees & guests. Culture programme started with a Prayer “Satyam Shivam Sunderam” by Well-known singer Ms. Aishwarya Mujamdar. A theme song on Doordarshan Kendra Ahmedabad and its various programs was specially prepared and presented by Shri Prafful Dave, Prominent Gujarati Singer.Shri A K Gupta, Rtd. Chief Engineer (WZ) & then Station Engineer of Doordarshan Kendra, Ahmedabad & Shri Urvish Dave, Rtd. Dy. Director (P) & then producer shared the experiences
An audio video presentation containing the messages of Shri P R S Nair, Shri R L Rao, Shri B B L Mathur (all the Officers have served at the Kendra as Superintending Engineer), Shri L P Manderwal, Late Smt. Saroj Chandola (all the Officers have served at the Kendra as Station Director), Shri P Selvaraj then Installation officer, Shri V Kartikeyen (served as Station Engineer at Kendra) were presented during the programme.

            Officers / Officials of the Kendra participated in the Cultural programme and presented Gujarati & Hindi songs, Skits, Poems, Mono acting etc. Large no. of retired staff attended the function. To mark the occasion 20 officers / officials/ Associates of the Kendra were felicitated in different categories.
This Program will be telecast in two parts on DD Girnar; on 14th and 21st October 2012 between 4.05 pm to 6 pm .
