Any Indian film which has won a national film award or has been screened at any international film festival including the Indian festival at Panaji will be paid up to Rs 2.5 million if it is offered to Doordarshan as a premiere telecast.

Doordarshan director general Tripurari Sharan told Indiantelevision.com that the filmS will be shown in a new series on 'New Indian cinema'.Sharan said he was prepared to consider films from the year 2000 if they had not been telecast so far, irrespective of language.

He said DD has already had the mandate to screen National Award winning films but very few producers offered telecast rights to Doordarshan. By including Indian Panorama and major festival films and raising screening fee, DD expects to attract more producers to submit their films for telecast.

Indian films selected for Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Toronto, Locarno, London, Karlovy Vary, Nantes, Rotterdam, Fribourg, Munich, Busan, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Rome and Sydney film festivals are eligible for telecast.

DD has also increased the telecast fee. While a television premiere on DD will get Rs 2.5 million, regular screening fee is Rs 1.5 million, a threefold increase over the earlier Rs 500,000.

All the films have to be subtitled in English and have to be certified "U" or "U/A" by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to be eligible for telecast.

Doordarshan will soon constitute a selection committee headed by an eminent filmmaker for the series expected to start from June 2013.
