Doordarshan spent over 6 Crore as legal expense in 2007-09.

          The Central Vigilance Commission is enquiring into over Rs six crore of legal expenses incurred by government broadcaster Doordarshan and its associated organisations in last two years, Rajya Sabha was informed today. 

         "Prasar Bharti has intimated that a sum of Rs 6,16,70,426 has been paid as legal payment during the years 2007-09 by DG: Doordarshan, DDK, CPC and DCS," Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting S Jagathrakshakan said in his reply. 

         Member of Parliament from Communist Party of India D Raja had asked whether this amount is considered to be exorbitant compared to earlier legal bill and if the CVC has been asked to probe the matter. 

         "The CVC is looking into the matter and the enquiry is in progress," the minister said.
