Govt to set up nodal group soon for news flow during crisis.

            The government is expected to soon set up an Empowered Nodal Group to act as a single point authority for disbursement of news in the event of major crisis like Mumbai terror attack

        “This group is being set up in response to a suggestion by the News Broadcasters Association (NBA) considering the experience of 26/11 when the entire nation was angry with the way the attacks were telecast by news channels. I would like to inform that the formation of the nodal group is in the final stage,” Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said on 08-12-09.

         The Minister told the Lok Sabha that news broadcasters had shown restraint since the last couple of months without any notice or advisory. “The government is not in favour of censoring news, but we have been able to talk to editors about the contents.”

      Minister  said the Advertising Code under the Cable Regulatory Act has been violated by several channels and the Ministry has issued 30 notices to them in the last six months.
